Jessica Alba most wanted substitute teacher

In a National Education Association online poll on November 17, with 46 percent of the votes, Hollywood actress Jessica Alba was voted as the most wanted celebrity as their substitute teacher. Jessica Alba was followed by TV talk show host Oprah Winfrey (with 24 percent), the actress Angelina Jolie (with 14 percent), the actor Will Smith (with 12 percent) and tennis star Andre Agassi (with 4 percent).
In other Celebrity news, this is not the only poll Jessica Alba is topping as recently the actress and Ray Winstone were voted as those who should be the next celebrity couple in James Bond movie.

Although substitute educators play a key role in the classroom, they are often taken for granted. Our celebrity Substitute Educators Day poll is an excellent way for us to spotlight the collective contributions of substitutes to schools nationwide. Just as actress Jessica Alba toiled long and hard before achieving stardom, substitute educators work tirelessly — and often in relative anonymity — to provide every child with a quality public education.

How Borat hoaxed America

Spoof Kazakh reporter Borat - aka Ali G comedian Sacha Baron Cohen - is expected to score a box office hit by offending and humiliating real Americans in a new movie.

The Veteran Feminists of America were among Borat's victims
When a gangly foreign reporter with broken English, bushy moustache and crumpled suit turned up at artist Linda Stein's New York studio, she thought she was helping spread the word about women's rights.

Ms Stein, with two other members of Veteran Feminists of America, agreed to be filmed for what they thought was a documentary to help third world women.

But then the reporter started talking about his wife's farm work ("she pulls the plough"), women walking three steps behind men ("it used to be 10 steps, my country is advancing") and asking how to contact Pamela Anderson.

"I thought I was talking to an uneducated man, maybe from a tribal community," Ms Stein says. "I mean, that's how it seemed to me.

"In our earnestness, we were trying to help women around the world."

Shocking and provocative

Ms Stein is not alone in being duped by Baron Cohen.

The British comedian has perfected his act as the apparently naive reporter whose enthusiastic offensiveness either leaves his interviewees in shock or persuades them to reveal a little too much of their own prejudices.

And the result is set to be one of the year's most popular films.

Britney baby name mystery solved

Britney Spears
Spears has put her music career on hold
The name of Britney Spears's second child has finally been revealed - six weeks after his birth.

His name, Jayden James Federline, was uncovered after his birth certificate was filed with officials this week.

The birth, on 12 September, has still not been officially announced by the singer and husband Kevin Federline.

It was originally reported the couple had called the child Sutton Pierce, giving him the same initials as their first son, Sean Preston.

Teenage fame

There were also rumours the baby was a girl after celebrity magazines claimed Spears had been spotted shopping for pink baby clothes.

Spears, 24, achieved global fame at the age of 17 with her number one single Hit Me Baby One More Time, going on to sell millions of albums.

But she has put her music career on hold to raise her children, releasing her last album - a greatest hits compilation - in 2004.

She married dancer Kevin Federline in September 2004, five months after they began dating.

Earlier that year, Spears married friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas. That marriage - described as a "joke" - was annulled 55 hours later.

Fox 'not acting' in campaign ads

Michael J Fox's campaign advert
The advert aired in Missouri, where stem-cell research is a key issue
Actor Michael J Fox says he was neither acting nor off his medication in recent US political campaign adverts.

The adverts show Fox, 45, shaking from the effects of his disease while asking voters to back Democrat candidates who support stem cell research.

Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh claimed that the actor was exaggerating his condition.

"That's funny - the notion that you could calculate it for effect, Fox told CBS News. "Would that we could."

"The irony of it is that I was too medicated," added the actor, who has starred in Back to the Future and Spin City.

Election issue

The campaign advert ran in Missouri, where the issue of stem cell research has become an important issue in the mid-term elections.

The actor urges voters to accept an amendment which would change the state constitution to permit federally-approved research on cells derived from human embryos.

Mariah concert shelved after row

Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey won three awards at this year's Grammys
Singer Mariah Carey's concert in Hong Kong has been shelved after a dispute between the star and promoters.

The 36-year-old's manager has denied that it was cancelled due to poor ticket sales and "specific last-minute demands" from the star.

Benny Medina told the Associated Press that the gig was scrapped because promoters Concerts Asia failed to pay the singer her fee on time.

He added that they are trying to stage the concert with another promoter.

But Carey is planning to return to the US to work on a film and her next album, while Concerts Asia said on its website that an announcement will be made next week about refunds for ticket holders.

'No question'

Mr Medina said that the date would have been honoured even if ticket sales had proved sluggish, adding that 8,000 tickets had been sold - double the figure claimed by the promoter.

"If there were only 10 people in this venue, and this particular promoter had fulfilled his contractual obligations, we would be there. Mariah Carey loves her fans in South-East Asia.

The authorities in California have yet to press charges over the matter.

Richie gets weight loss treatment

Nicole Richie
The feud between Nicole Richie and her co-star Paris Hilton has ended
Reality TV star Nicole Richie has checked into a treatment centre to help her gain weight.

Filming for The Simple Life, in which she stars with hotel heiress Paris Hilton, has been postponed.

The socialite daughter of Lionel Richie has dominated magazine headlines because of her frail figure.

Richie's publicist, Nicole Perna, insists she does not have anorexia and just needs to focus on nutrition.

"It is important to Nicole that she achieves this goal in a healthy way as this is not a treatment for an eating disorder," she said.

"She is working with a team of doctors and specialists," she added.

Madonna adoption case adjourned

Madonna said her children had welcomed young David
The hearing of a case brought by rights groups challenging Madonna's adoption of a Malawian boy has been adjourned.

The pop star's lawyer told reporters the hearing was postponed until 13 November so the judge could hear from other parties involved in the case.

An alliance of 67 groups is pushing for the right to challenge the interim adoption order which let Madonna take one-year-old David out of the country.

His father was at the court, protesting against moves to halt the adoption.

A spokesman for the rights groups, Maxwell Matewere, said they would not "move an inch to stop the legal action" despite the Yohane Banda's appeal.

Mr Matewere, director of the Eye of the Child organisation, told AFP news agency it was clear that David should not have been allowed to leave the country.

He argues that Malawi law bans foreign adoptions and that Madonna's wealth and status simplified the process.

An open letter to Madonna from Eye of the Child says:

"Inter-country adoption is prohibited under the Malawi current Children Adoption Act as section 3(5) reads 'an adoption order shall not be made in favour of any applicant who is not a resident in Malawi or in respect of any infant who so resident'."

The letter ends: "God bless you for the motherly and loving heart."

'I bet Robbie will marry me' - fan

A 33-year-old Robbie Williams fan stands to win Ł10,000 if she can convince her idol to marry her, bookmakers said.

Frances Ingram, from Chester, has placed a Ł10 bet at odds of 1,000/1 that she will wed the superstar.

And if her dream of marriage fails, Ms Ingram is willing to accept a single date with the star - which could net her Ł4,000 after she wagered a further Ł40 at 100/1 that the superstar would ask her out.

The store supervisor claims to be the singer's greatest fan and has his initials tattooed on her back.

Rupert Adams, a spokesman for William Hill, which took the bets, said: "It is one of the more original bets we have ever taken and it is the sort of wager that could become self-fulfilling.

"Everyone loves seeing the bookies taken to the cleaners and I am sure Robbie is no different.

"If he hears about the bet, surely he will ask her out."
